Who is still sleeping off Thanksgiving dinner? Yeah, us too.
You know what we didn’t buy? This:
WHAT THE ACTUAL HECKING HECK? But also? So cool, right? The photo above looks like a Star Trek veg… oh you think we could/should Google what Buddha’s Hand Citron is? Yes we could. But we will not. We passed by it fast on our last minute Thanksgiving dive into the Whole Foods in Weehawken. If you know what this is and how it’s used? Drop a comment, yo. That is way better than Google anyway. And now for some more important news…
Weehawken Scarves Are Lit!
Rumor has it that the New York Times is scrambling to order more ink in order to be able to produce the many extra pages that will be dedicated to the fashion trend started by the Weehawken scarves.*
Yes, the scarves are so in demand that, pre-launch, people are printing the design on paper and wearing the papers on 42nd street in Manhattan, hoping to be seen. Those people are cold, and kind of cray, because you can fill out a form now so your beautiful Weehawken-supporter scarf will be waiting for you when the collection drops.
Yes, fill out the form here to reserve your scarf as soon as possible.
Proceeds from this accessible accessory that is a necessary winter accoutrement** go to the Weehawken Education Foundation. The link again? Right here: Weehawken scarves for sale.
*We started the rumor, yes, and we will continue to fan the flames.
**An accoutrement is a fancy word for an accessory and this scarf will make you look so fancy yet rugged you might need a long stick to keep the groupies at bay!
Maestro Makes Weehawken Proud
Conductor Gerard Schwartz, above, was born and raised in Weehawken. Earlier this year he did an episode of a podcast called Speaking Soundly where he spoke a bit about his roots in Weehawken and described how his early access to hearing great music, live, inspired him to put down his trumpet and pick up a baton.
American conductor Gerard Schwarz has led some of the world's finest orchestras for the past half-century. With 9 Emmy Awards, 14 Grammy nominations, and a catalogue of over 350 recordings, it's remarkable to consider that Gerard's illustrious journey began with a pivotal decision—leaving behind his first career as a trumpet soloist.
Hear him interviewed by David Krauss, principal trumpet at the Met Opera, below, or find the podcast on Spotify, Amazon or YouTube.
12/15 in Jersey City: Cantigas Woman’s Choir Concert
See the poster? Thing is “The Dance of Love” is actually a no-dancing all-singing choir concert. Cantigas is a choir that rehearses in Hoboken and draws people from all around NoHu from Tenafly to Jersey City and beyond. The winter concert is Sunday, December 15th, 2024 at 5PM at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jersey City.
Suggested donation is $20, Students & Seniors $10
Tickets and info here: eventbrite.com/e/the-dance-of-love-tickets-1075341789239
If you can’t go? Well, Giving Tuesday is a good time to open your wallet and drop some bucks to Cantigas, a good vibes all ages singing group. They are going to Greece this summer and more $ means more people can go.
Disclosure: The author is singing in this concert and is not the best singer in the group — not even close. But yeah, it’s so fun to be part of a talented group of nice people.
Want more singing?
Try the Goldenrod Chorale concert in Hoboken. Goldenrod is a new 55+ singing group with a concert December 8 at Community Church at 6th and Garden in Hoboken at 3:45PM. Tickets are $10 suggested donation. From the site:
“Building Harmony” will feature songs from the American songbook and tunes sung by Frank Sinatra, the Mommas and the Poppas, and the Beatles, as well as a few Holiday tunes for which we will ask the audience to sing along.
Get tickets here: eventbrite.com/e/building-harmony-introducing-goldenrod-chorale-registration-1088984595239
Note: both concerts include a “reception” which equals food and drink, so yay for that too.
Bob Dylan Movie Includes Local ⭐
Remember when “A Complete Unknown” was filming in Hoboken? We were on the scene (the street) and we wrote about the filming of the movie back in June.
Well a local Weehawken High School graduate who currently attends Stevens Institute of Technology is a featured extra and can be seen briefly in the trailer. YAY and way to go Katherine Thompson. Wee are so very proud of you always. The movie drops 12/25/24.
