Why do you do this?
It’s simple: We lost our local newspapers, the Hudson Reporter (which published the Weehawken Reporter), in Jan 2023, and we lost the 157-year-old Jersey Journal in February 2025, so we are now in a news desert. People do not know what is happening, locally. It’s sad and scary. This newsletter started in April 2024 to help fill in the gap: we call it news dessert.
Fact: we pay for NJ dot com, northjerseynews dot com, and the NY Times. Nobody but us would write about our recent municipal elections, and yes, we tried.
Why subscribe? Why should I give y’all my hard-earned or trust fund money?
Do you live in dirty Jerz, round about NoHu? Great, you’ll love it. And it’s all free — free to read and free to subscribe. There’s a good reason. And as of July 2025, we started accepting pledges. Even pledging the cost of a cup of coffee a month (hopefully a fancy coffee) is huge and helps us grow. We have not paid ourselves a dime yet, but in spring 2026, we started paying freelance contributors and artists.
And as for spring 2026, paying subs are now entitled to a repro postcard and stamp as a thank you gift.
Oh, yes, the comments are for paying subs only, but that’s just to discourage trolls.
Where, exactly?
We are based in, and often/mostly focus on beautiful Weehawken, NJ. We also lean into the surrounding towns of Jersey City, West New York, Edgewater, Hoboken, Guttenberg, Union City, Cliffside Park, and North Bergen. But our coverage can span whatever’s cool on New Jersey’s Gold Coast, sometimes reaching all the way up north to Tenafly and down south to Bayonne, and we can dive into the marshes of the Meadowlands. Heck we sometimes even mention Paramus.
But who is the Weehawken Gazette?
Weehawken Gazette was started by (and is almost entirely by) Susie Felber, a writer, performer & producer. She’s been in movies, TV, magazines (remember those?), and on radio. But as of 2026, we have occasional paid contributors.

She started writing and producing original online content like games, newsletters, and videos in the 90’s (she’s old!) for Comedy Central. She’s written for and appeared on radio, TV, video games, films, magazines, written literally thousands of blog posts, worked in tech for 9 years, and even appeared as the voice of the letter “O” on Sesame Street. She wrote jokes for Car Talk and she’s hosted and performed live comedy for thousands and for handfuls, as you can hear about on the Gig Hoes podcast. Her live variety show The Hawk appears now and again. She’s also an agency co-founder, a mom, and a supporter of the public schools. Her kids are way smarter than she is.
What’s the big dismount?
When you know what’s happening, when you know the people who make things happen, you can lead a richer, fuller life in your community. We focus on events, talented people who are here or from here, local history, local mysteries, and celebrating those who make a difference. Think globally — read and act locally.
